How do I gain access to the tool?

Users can register for access to the SDMT via the access request form here. Please complete the boxes as prompted, indicating which version(s) of the tool (Community or Inpatient, or both) you require access to and whether you require Administrator access.

Our support team will then review your request and set you up as required. You will then receive an email containing your log in details and a link to the tool.

Is there any guidance/tutorial documentation available?

A range of guidance documents and tutorial videos are available on this website here. These cover everything from getting access to the tool and creating your first model, to background and history of the development of the tool.

My password isn’t working, what can I do?

Please click on the ‘Forgot my Password’ link on the log in page of the tool. You will be prompted to enter your email address and organisation code, after which a new password will be emailed to you.

Please let our support team know if you do not receive these details promptly.

I have access to more than one organisation, how do I switch between them?

Users with access to multiple organisations can switch between them via the ‘File’ > ‘Change Context’ option when logged in to the tool. Please note your password will be the same for each organisation you have access to.

How do I switch between the Community and Inpatient versions of the tool?

Currently the Inpatient Tool can only be accessed by users who have been assigned to a region (as opposed to a CCG for example). You can access the Inpatient tool by logging in with your region code, or via the ‘File’ > ‘Change Context’ option if you are currently logged in to the Community Tool.

The Community Tool can be accessed by any user assigned to a CCG, a Local Authority, or a Footprint.

I tried to log in to the tool but the screen is blank?

The tool unfortunately can run into display issues on Internet Explorer. We recommend using Google Chrome wherever possible to ensure full functionality of all areas of the tool. The Tool asks me to enter a 'Standard Deviation' value, what is this?

‘Standard deviation’ is a statistical measure of the spread of values in a distribution. It allows us to take account of the variability in the lengths of individual treatment pathways when figuring out the required number of appointments.

Your local data analyst should be able to provide you with the ‘standard deviation’ alongside your other data.

Further information can be found in the video titled 'The Value of Standard Deviation'.

The coloured 'Analysis' sections of the What-If tab have not populated

Please ensure you have selected your service from the drop down box and pressed the 'Analyse' button.

If the coloured sections are still not populating, this could be due to two things.

  • Firstly it could be that the criteria you have specified for your service are unachievable. The 'Optimise' section will allow you to see what values you will need to use in this instance.
  • Please also check that you have filled in all fields when creating your service. You can check this via the 'Edit...' button on the What-If page. If any fields are blank you will need to complete these in order to the What-If values to populate correctly.
